Conclusion of a trial for a parent that tried emergency prayer instead of emergency medical attention.

Face it. Today will be as bad a day as any other.
I saw that one.
I had a strong desire to hit something by the time I finished the story.
And then I started listening to Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. Repeatedly. It helped a little.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

I love Reznor's reaction to that cover: "That song in particular was straight from my soul, and it felt very strange hearing the highly identifiable voice of Johnny Cash singing it. It was a good version, and I certainly wasn't cringing or anything, but it felt like I was watching my girlfriend fuck somebody else."

And the saddest part for Reznor: his girlfriend liked Cash better.Draco_Argentum wrote:I love Reznor's reaction to that cover: "That song in particular was straight from my soul, and it felt very strange hearing the highly identifiable voice of Johnny Cash singing it. Pretty much any good song by Reznor has been covered by someone else better (something I can never have by George Sarah and Lara Peterson, Hurt by Johnny Cash, etc), with the exception of closer.

Actually he apparently did both versions of the lyrics.Crissa wrote:Well, Reznor's version is pretty old now, like fourteen years. Cash's version is good, but he sings the radio edit version of the lyrics.

I have to say I liked the NIN version better, but I like NIN so theres a bias there.

Given the number of animals PETA kills (sometimes, as soon as its in the van and they haven't even driven away from your house, yet), they can go eat a barrel of cocks. I'd eat the burger and enjoy it even more, just to spite them.

I want to meet Sarah Palin in person so I can yell at her for a while.
Seriously...Tzor, please, please, PLEASE tell me that most rational conservatives, such as yourself, are embarrassed to have Sarah Palin on the same side of the fence.

I am not embarrassed. Sorry but when push comes to shove, I think for her first attempt at national politics she did pretty good, although she wasn't prepared for it by a long shot and still isn't.
Yes I think this is a "pants on fire" charge, but on the other hand, one can argue that there is a push to require all downs syndrome infants to be aborted before birth. She got a ton of complaints for her brazen act of actually giving birth to a downs syndrome baby. I don't think the administration's plan will "lead" to this, but I do think that the administration would be happy if such a proposal were pushed through congress. Eugenics is still a major philosophy in the administration's staff and so is utilitarianism. Both strongly encourage the non-birth of non-productive members of society.

My point is...well she latched onto the idea of 'reducing costs' and then took someone else's statement that the best way to reduce costs is to refuse treatment. Then she turned THAT into a howling declaration that the Obama administration will be imperiously ordering people to die untreated because of a disability.
Nevermind that, as far as the Dems have said, a goal is to make healthcare more affordable for the patient seeking it.
The woman's NUTS.

Actually the "best" way to reduce costs is simply not pay. Problem is that not paying makes fewer people want to actually, you know, do things. This is the number one problem with medicare; they pay so little that many doctors simply refuse to get involved with the program. The result is rationing; supply and demand where no one wants to supply anymore. (Don't say you can force them; if you do they will retire.)Maxus wrote:My point is...well she latched onto the idea of 'reducing costs' and then took someone else's statement that the best way to reduce costs is to refuse treatment.

Sorry about that--to both of you. Now that I read it...Just, yeah, that sounded dickish. My only excuse is that I was still flabbergasted over the audacity of Palin. And how far she can jump to make it to a conclusion she wants to arrive at (in this case, The Health Plan Is Bad).

The animals Peta takes in are the animals the local shelters won't. Because the shelter would just kill them. So Peta takes the animals in an attempt to not have them killed. It doesn't always work... And they don't really have the expertise to make it work, but that's another point entirely.
Stop lying, please. Ugh. I'd rather agree with tzor.
...On that point, tzor is right. Tho the biggest problem is that medicare pays the same no matter if you're in New York City or Omaha. The problem is their paying is set in the Senate...
The new plan would take it out of the hands of the Senate and put it into a more agile set of administrators, which would take direction from Congress and the Resident... But mostly follow a set of rules. And it starts out at a number 5% higher than Medicare is now.
At no point in the new plan are costs controlled by availability, like they are now in private insurance - costs are controlled by looking at efficacy, broadening supply, and negotiating ratings. Things which are not done now, in our system.

This brought a tear to my eye.
I remember reading about these guys before they started up their little business.
I keep meaning to go down and visit/heckle the park closer to me in Kentucky. I think I'll bring my kids there when they're old enough to understand the basics of crazy people and evolution assuming the park is still around.

Sadly there is no actual attempt to put such a practice into law.
And I say sadly because frankly if you know a child is going to have that sort of crippling defect before they are even a child then hell yes you should abort and try again!
I've had two cousins with I think very severe Cerebral Palsy. These kids cannot and will not ever be able to so much as talk.
The expense of raising them has brought nothing but endless pain to my Aunt and Uncle, and our entire extended family.
Fuck you for DARING to suggest that a gentle and early way out of that if it had arisen could ever have been wrong. And sure as hell Fuck Palin for
A) Costing society needless and vast amounts of money
B) Costing her family needless and vast amounts of pain
C) Needlessly creating a child that will never lead a truly fulfilling life
and Most of all
D) Telling all the potential parents in the world who made the right decision that they were murderers

Down syndrome is a trisomy. It's not even heritable. Preventing children from being born with Down Syndrome is therefore just like preventing children from being born with with any non genetic crippling deformities. Preventing Down Syndrome is equivalent to keeping pregnant mothers away from cigarette smoke or industrial solvents. Bringing Down Syndrome children into the world is the moral equivalent of kicking babies in the face.
Now, people who didn't get tested and didn't know that's what they were doing are certainly off the hook from the intentions standpoint. But they should still tell their story with the same humility and shame that befits the story of "I was walking in the dark and could not see where I was going and I accidentally kicked a baby in the face." It's not something to be proud of.
The fact that Palin keeps bringing her fucking kids into the spotlight and keeps whining about how her very real failures as a mother and a human being have caused very real problems for her kids and that those problems keep getting brought up by her detrators - that makes her a hypocrite. If she wanted the fact that her own failed abstinence education crap ended with her own daughter becoming an unwed teenage mother to not get brought up she shouldn't have made her children or her failed abstinence education plans into an issue. But the fact that she has all these failures as a mother and a human being also mean that in addition to being a hypocrite, she is also an appalling and offensive monster.

Well, it's heritable from people who already have it. And there's people who say you shouldn't abort children who have things you don't like, like missing arms, limbs, or other parts malformed. You know, 'cause they could grow up to be a person. Well, there's other people who blame older women for down's syndrome, too.
It's a specious argument. No one (in any power) is advocating abortion, euthanasia, or whatever. Heck, the government proposals as they now stand can't fund abortions because of people like Palin.
You know, the law that also make abortions in cases that the fetus is already dead, or that the mother is risking their life or ability to reproduce or limb or whatever illegal as long as the pregnancy is a bit along?
Augh.

I'm aware that the site could be lying - most statistics and so on are copypastad there on the site rather than linking to other sites, so they could be altering them/making them up entirely.
But it seems more or less legit to me, and I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that yet again, the "You can't test life-saving medicine on the poor rodents" team are hypocrites who gladly kill pets.
On the Downs thing and Palin: "what Frank said". I think less people should be born into situations where their lives are going to be unpleasant at best, a living hell at worst. The fact that the family goes through a lot of suffering and society is also required to support them is unfortunate as well, but the major issue is that someone is going to go through a terrible life that could have been detected and prevented.
As for Palin and "for her first attempt at national politics she did pretty good, although she wasn't prepared for it by a long shot and still isn't.", she wasn't willing to learn the rules of the major league - that she would have been playing in. She was happily waving a battle axe at Russia, and basically seemed to want a position of leadership without bothering to actually do any studying for how to do that.

That is an interesting comparison between Palin and Limbaugh. It would not surprise me if she is gunning for his job instead of Obama's. Become the voice of the party and rake in money from those who buy into their fear mongering, lies and hate. She may be dumb enough to think that is a viable re-entry path into politics for her, but tis likely that it is a better prospect than getting fired as a governor.
The nicest thing I can say about her is that if she somehow fell into the presidency, she would likely wind up being someone else's puppet.
